University Gateway

JetBlue is committed to finding the best talent to join our ranks and become professional pilots for our airline . One of the unique ways we are accomplishing this goal is with the University Gateway Program. Launched in 2007, the program provides aviation students with a unique pathway, from their undergraduate studies all the way to becoming a first officer for JetBlue, providing steps along the way for building flight time and experience.

The relationship between students accepted into the University Gateway program begins during their sophomore year at a participating aviation university. The program, lasting for seven years, involves graduating from the AABI Accredited University, becoming a Certified Flight Instructor at the student’s University, flying as a Captain for Cape Air to gain flight time and valuable pilot in command experience and ends with a final interview with JetBlue.

Our Process

INSTRUCT

After graduating, build experience as a Flight Instructor for your university.

INTERN

Spend your summer working for JetBlue or Cape Air as a College Crew intern.

FLY

Build flight time and experience as a Captain for Cape Air or ExpressJet.

INTERVIEW

After attending a Jet Transition Course, you'll complete a final First Officer interview.



How It Works

The University Gateway Program provides undergraduate pilots the opportunity to work as interns at Cape Air or JetBlue. Upon graduation, they gain valuable experience as Certified Flight Instructors for their university. From there, these aviators will join Cape Air as pilots gaining flight time and experience flying scheduled passenger service, as a Captain.

After meeting the competitive hiring requirements at JetBlue, program participants will complete a jet transition course and attend a final interview to become a First Officer.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the University Gateway Program, students must:
- Be enrolled in a participating AABI-accredited university
- Be a current sophomore, junior or senior
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA
- Submit a cover letter, resume and recommendations
